| The ‘Town Samithi’, as it is called, traces its origin to as early as 1967. The whole of India then probably had less than 10 Sai centres registered with the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (although many informal Sai bhajan groups existed in many states). The Town Samithi belongs to that exclusive group that came into being before the First All India Conference of Sathya Sai Organisations was held in Abbotsbury, Chennai in April 1967. But what makes this samithi even more special is the way Bhagawan decided to mark its inauguration. Swami sent his dearest biographer Prof. N. Kasturi to personally visit Pondicherry and unveil His picture at this samithi. After that, Dr.Balasubramaniam, Director of JIPMER has started Jipmer Samithi in 1971. Thereafter Devotees of puducherry started Kurinji Nagar Samithi, Mohan Nagar Samithi, Thengai Thittu Samithi. Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations is functional in Puducherry district with members from various cross sections of society and different faiths. With around [Five Samithis and One Bhajan Mandalis], the Organisation serves as a platform for its members to undertake spiritual practices through its various wings such as spiritual, education and service for their own betterment.The thrust is on self-transformation for it is only individual transformation that would ultimately lead to global transformation. |
